Center for Rare
The Center for Rare Diseases is a multidisciplinary collaboration between the University Children's Hospital Zurich and the UniversityHospital Zurich. The center includes the "Rare Disease Helpline", the "Swiss Rare Disease Registry" (SRDR), and the "Service for Undiagnosed Patients".
An estimated six to eight percent of the population will develop a rare disease during their lifetime, usually in childhood. In Switzerland, this amounts to about half a million patients. In order to recognize rare diseases early and to provide patients with the best possible care, it is essential to have clinical reference centers. With the Center for Rare Diseases, services that support and complement existing clinical structures have been set up.
